AUTUMN NEWSLETTER

My favourite topic to start with is a change of the date and venue for the A.G.M, the venue has yet to be decided but judging by the last turn out my garden shed should be plenty big enough if I move the mower over a bit.  The date will be Wednesday April the 11th 2007, put that in your diary and smoke it.  I’m sure I will mention the A.G.M again in the future.  Apparently we have a website so for more up to date information I suggest you have a look, plus it would be nice for some of your pictures and witty stories.  This will liven up those dark winter nights and give the computer nerds something to do!

Blenheim Palace was a great success again and lots of fish were caught all the information on the website.  There are also reports on the carp match earlier this year at Redlands.

Another Carp match was held at Redlands over the last weekend, thanks to all who braved the very wet weather and raised over £100.00 for club funds. The winner was Mark Boniface with three fish to 63lb the biggest was 26lb, (he also won the last match!) second was Martin Hopgood with a fish of 24lb, Tim Athey had one of 16lb and John Gillot had one of 12lb.

Southlake has fished well so far this year. The biggest carp to date being 36lbs 12oz with many other decent carp being caught and lets not forget the many other species that reside in the lake.  Now onto a matter arising at Southlake the boating club, we have a complaint from them well not us but Wokingham District Council have had a complaint about anglers and we know who you are, some have been wading out and tossing their buoys into the bushes (I bet that doesn’t get past Alan?).  I know these buoys can be a hazard to the fish, but the boating club are entitled to use this area of the lake every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday am, so please leave their buoys alone.  (I could have filled a whole page with buoy jokes but I thought better of it).  We do not want any trouble over this as Wokingham District Council might take back the night bank or worse not renew our lease next year so lets be sensible.

Onto Redlands now and this also has been fishing well this year even with the low water level and prolific weed growth, this weed can only be good for the small fish as it provides shelter from predictors and food. The third rod licence is now available from Steve, it costs £20 and is valid from The 1st of November to the31st March 2007 we have managed to source some carp for Redlands, and they will be going into the lake shortly. These are not Simmons fish so they should look very different I have seen fish from the same source and they are stunning. There will be approximately 30 carp and 200 small tench these are hard to come by so all will be going in the main lake. To all those people who said they would sponsor a fish stick your hands in your pockets and donate some cash.

There was a junior teaching at Southlake this was sponsored by A.W. Sports thanks to them and the members who helped out on the day 22 little darlings attended and all went off well.  A.W. Sports is your local tackle shop so try to give them your business as much as possible plus you get 10% off if you show your permit. (No I’m not getting a back hande, though I am looking for some new rods cough!)

Just a thought don’t leave your tackle unattended as it has a habit of sprouting legs, it’s easy to put your gear down and go for a wander it only takes a minute to lose it. I’ve been asked to remind you that S.A.S hats are available to buy from Steve please buy one Steve has got loads of the blooming things or you can visit the website for details. Well that’s my drivel over till next time so from me and your committee have a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Just one more thing saw a sign outside Rivermead in Caversham it said psychic fair cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances tickled me to death.

All the best

Terry
